Delivering Innovative Learner Success Solutions for the New Zealand Tertiary Education Commission

The Tertiary Education Commission (TEC), through its Accelerating Learner Success Fund (Tūwhitia), sought innovative projects that could remove barriers, improve retention, and accelerate achievement for tertiary learners across New Zealand.

Engaged as a trusted delivery partner, we provided the solution through our tertiary institution arm, Future Skills Academy. Our team designed and implemented a targeted initiative that met the fund’s requirements while addressing real-world learner challenges.

The project centred on the development of a “Just-In-Time” digital extension tool, designed to deliver personalised learning support, resources, and guidance exactly when students need it. This approach empowered learners to overcome barriers in real time, improving both engagement and progression rates.

Through this collaboration, TEC was able to trial and validate a scalable model of learner support that can be adapted across the tertiary sector. Delivered through Future Skills Academy, the solution not only met the fund’s objectives but also set a benchmark for how technology-enabled interventions can accelerate learner success at scale.
